Brandwells has an exemplary record for training and staff development. The Construction Skills Certification Scheme has awarded us its Certificate of Commitment Platinum Standard for achieving a staff accreditation level of over 90%.
We keep up standards through our commitment to safety and training, ensuring a safe working environment for our site workforce, staff and management.
We continually strive to ensure all our employees hold up to date and relevant CSCS cards. If required, we register individuals for On Site Assessment and Training (OSAT) as this makes it possible to convert existing skills into trade appropriate NVQs without having to leave site.
In addition we provide training and development in a range of construction-related skills and health & safety for our staff including:
- CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
- CITB Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)
- Confined Spaces (City & Guilds)
- New Roads Street Works Act (NRSWA) (City & Guilds)
- Emergency First Aid at Work
- Plant Training, including CPCS
Work experience placements
Each year we invite a small number of youngsters from a local secondary school to spend a week with us learning how a construction company operates. They gain a useful insight into the jobs people do, such as estimating, surveying and site management. They go on site visits and are given an understanding of health & safety issues in construction.
Students in the last two years of compulsory schooling (from year 10) can take part in work experience, considered an important part of “Education for Employability” which allows students to learn about the world of work in a real-life working situation and the skills needed in the workplace. In some cases they may be able to try out an occupation that interests them.
Each year two one-week placements centred on quantity surveying, estimating and engineering practice are available. Students do real jobs, learn how the company is organised and gain an understanding of how enterprise, creativity and innovation help businesses to survive and grow.
